One of the most colorful section in the grocery store is the produce section. You will see every color of the rainbow in this section. While you may see every color, that does not mean that all those colors will get into your shopping cart. If you are not getting a variety of colors, you are not giving your body everything it needs. This is what the colors of the produce section can offer your body. The Color GreenOne of the most common colors in the produce section is green. Leafy green vegetables are also some of the best foods for your oral health. The green foods include lettuce, kale, spinach and asparagus. These green foods provide your body with vitamins A and C, calcium and phosphorus. Phosphorus stored in the teeth and bones can help the body absorb calcium and magnesium, which in turn helps keep the teeth strong and healthy. Berries of all ColorsWhether it is red strawberries or blueberries, these colorful fruits provide protection for your teeth. They are high in anthocyanins which can prevent pathogens from attaching and growing on the teeth and other soft tissues in the mouth. Colorful and Hard Veggies and FruitsBright orange carrots and juicy red apples are some of the colorful foods that help keep the teeth strong. Including these foods in your diet will help stimulate your gums while also helping you generate more saliva. The saliva can help remove the bacteria that are always growing in the mouth and on the teeth. The different foods you find in the produce section offer healthy alternatives to other sugar filled snacks. They not only help promote good oral health; they also help your overall health. Make sure you create a rainbow in your cart as you walk through the produce section. Contact our office to learn more or to schedule an appointment today! |
