Not All Toothbrushes Are Good for Your Teeth

Posted on 7/12/2021 by Fern Creek Dentistry
Not All Toothbrushes Are Good for Your TeethWhile most toothbrushes come in fancy packaging backed by persuasive marketing ads, not all toothbrushes are good for your teeth. It is important to pick a good toothbrush for the welfare of your teeth. Not only can your toothbrush help you to eliminate plaque, but it can also help you to retain your enamel longer. As enamel is the only defense your tooth, you want to do all you can to preserve it.

Avoid These Toothbrushes

If you buy a toothbrush which has hard bristles, you are likely to feel the abrasion against the enamel of your teeth. Most people do not like that feeling. The abrasion alone turns many buyers toward a soft bristled toothbrush. Generally, we do not recommend using a hard bristled toothbrush. Some stores do not even carry them anymore, making the choice easier for the consumer. However, not all soft toothbrushes are made equal!

Use a Soft Bristled Toothbrushes

Soft bristled toothbrushes are gentle on your teeth. You do not want to press too hard on your gums and irritate them. A soft bristled toothbrush is a better choice if you want to be gentle with your teeth and gums. Since you should change your toothbrush about four times a year, experiment with what type of soft toothbrush best fits your needs. Choose a toothbrush that you can easily hold and get into the more difficult parts of your mouth. Don't brush too vigorously, to avoid premature recession of your gums.

At your next dental cleaning an exam, we would be happy to show you the soft toothbrushes we recommend. We want to make it easy for you, as the consumer, to make good choices for your teeth and gums. Give our office a call today to make your next appointment.
