CEREC Same Day Crown Statesville, NC
You lead a busy life. So, if you have suffered tooth damage, it can feel like a major disruption. Damaged teeth need to be repaired, which means you need to take time out of your busy schedule to make an appointment. With some restorations, including crowns, more than one appointment is typically needed. This results in more disruptions. At Fern Creek Dentistry, we can restore damaged teeth and improve the quality of your smile with little disruption to your daily schedule with CEREC crowns.
Why Do Crowns Generally Take So Long?
The traditional dental crown and porcelain crowns process requires at least two appointments. This is because after preparing the damaged teeth for crowns, the impressions that are taken need to be sent to an off-site lab. Once the impressions have been sent off, it can take upwards of two weeks until the final crown is received back by the office. Then you need to have a second appointment so that the crown can be fit. If it fits properly, it is bonded onto the tooth. However, if adjustments are needed, the crown may need to be sent back to the lab and an additional appointment scheduled.
How CEREC Restores Your Tooth in One Day
With CEREC, you only need one appointment. However, how is this possible? Advanced dental technology allows us to take digital impressions of your mouth. Rather than sending your impressions to an off-site lab, we can custom design your crown right on the computer. Thanks to precise impressions and exact dimensions, we can design a crown that will perfectly fit within your mouth. We can also perfectly match the shade of your enamel for the most natural appearance.
Once we have finished designing the crown, the impression is sent a short distance to our in-house lab. Here, there is what is known as a milling unit. This is the technology that creates your crown. A block of ceramic is placed into the machine, and the unit cuts the crown out of it.
Immediately after the crown is completed, we can check to make sure that it fits your tooth. If adjustments are needed, they can be done right on site. There’s no need to send the crown off. When it fits properly and naturally, the crown is secured using dental cement.
What are the Benefits of CEREC Crowns?
The greatest advantage of a CEREC crown is that you only need one appointment. Everything is done on site. This means that there’s little disruption in your normal schedule. By getting your crown in one appointment, you avoid the need for a temporary restoration. This helps to reduce your risk of infections and injuries. Moreover, because your crowns are made from ceramic, they look completely natural.
Drawbacks to CEREC Crowns
The biggest drawback to CEREC crowns is that they can only be used to make ceramic restorations. The technology cannot be used to make metal or resin crowns. If you want or need one of these other types of materials, the traditional crown process will need to be followed. Ceramic crowns also are not the ideal solution for treating back teeth. Greater forces in this region of your mouth could damage the material, increasing your risk for complications.
